Prom 2014

April 2, 2014

Well well well. I am actually blogging again for the first time in forever. There is too much to say to fit into this blog. Therefore I’ll just say life is going swell. I’ve had ups and downs, since the last time I wrote anything, but recently I’ve had the opportunity to do some pretty neat things. After the crazy holiday season, our family went down to Florida to be with our grandparents for the fifth year in a row. It was absolutely amazing to have been able to go again for possibly my last time before I head off to college. Then I had an opportunity to participate in a Legislation Day dessert reception. It was absolutely marvelous! I’m not a political science fanatic, but getting to meet all kinds of government officials definitely made my day. Most recently besides preparing for my graduation open house I had been preparing for Prom and a Relay for Life event. The Relay for Life event is on May 10th and I will have more details below.

As for prom though. Well it was a night of pure magic. I felt like I was in some sort of dream. Awaking at 6:30 off to school I went in the morning and got out around noon and headed home. When I arrived home, I ate a small lunch and began the preparation for the night. The sink was covered with foundation powder, specks of eye shadow, brunette bobby pins, hairspray as strong as super glue, sable mascara, and every other product you could think of. Trying to be careful, I applied each one with care, while assisting my brother with some of his school work. I was terribly nervous. Then I went and picked up the boutonniere with my brother, Grayson. It had two white Dendrobium orchids with leaves and flower buds mixed in it wrapped tightly in a light green ribbon. Then my mom arrived home and she was there mostly for moral support and to fix a last few things. I tried out fake nails that didn’t require any glue and they work really well. It is six days after I put them on and they are still going strong. The best part about them is that they only took about 30 seconds to apply all ten nails to each hand. It was so quick and easy and they look admirably well. Then sometime around four o’clock my date came. He had a bouquet of roses that were of a cream hue with a light pink rim. (My favoriteJ) He looked absolutely dashing in his suit. His bow-tie matched my dress. I could not stop smiling all night long. My checks hurt from smiling so much. How can you help but smile with such overwhelming joy that is so powerful that it must find a way to escape. Our photographer took more professional pictures at the palladium, which I can’t wait to see how they turned out. Driving downtown Indy to the Indiana Rooftop ballroom went quite smoothly. The ballroom was stunning. As we took our seats, the waiters stood in a line walking and dancing to the song “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast. There was a spinach fruit salad, dinner rolls, stuffed chicken, roasted potatoes, and caramel glazed custard. My mouth is just watering thinking about how delightful it all tasted. We proceeded onto the dance floor partaking in line dances, slow dances, swing dancing, and free style dancing. I personally liked the swing dancing because my partner was an exceptional leader and teacher of each step. I knew the very basic steps, so it was just learning the fun stuff. One time he tried ending a song with me in his arms and his arms were strong enough to hold me up, but I totally did something wrong and almost fell, but of course he caught me. I couldn’t help but just laugh at myself. I’ve taken how many years of dance lessons and then when I go and dance with someone I totally almost end up on the ground. Like I said before though he is an amazing swing dancer and he caught me and we just worked with it. I think I had stepped on my dress and just slid. Oh Well. That is just real life isn’t it. J In the middle of the night we decided to go and take pictures at the photo booth. A friend of ours gave us props and so we took a picture with them and looked absolutely ridiculous. The whole night was absolutely perfect because I was able to just enjoy myself without worrying about trying to be “perfect”. I just was able to myself and the young gentleman I went with truly was chivalrous. He looked out for my best interest over his own. He was respectful of my personal boundaries and he worked extremely hard to make the night perfect. To be completely honest, the night was a magical fairytale night that every girl dreams it would be. I honestly was carried away by its beauty and struck by its perfect imperfections. Before the close of the night all of the seniors stepped out onto the dance floor for the senior dance. It was a precious dance where you can become carried away with an overwhelming feeling realizing that this is your last year in high school. I honestly am at a loss for words to describe it. How do you describe a dance of such beauty, love, sorrow, relief, joy… bittersweet just seems to fail in comparison to the powerful emotion behind it. Then for the last dance, well I think it is far time I tell you the name of this young man of whom I speak so favorably of. His name is Jake Hibbitt for your inquiring minds. Now back to the last dance. We were standing outside of the ballroom when they called for the last dance. “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong begins to play. With his suited arm outstretched, Jake officially escorted me onto the floor for one last dance. The lights all twinkling down upon the wooden ball room floor and the sweet familiar meledy matching the sway of my dress and lead of his step... Ahhhhh… I began to think “what a wonderful world it truly is. I could not have asked for anything better” As the song ended with me back in his arms and us both beaming with pure delight at one another, we decided to take one last glance at it all. Up the stairs we went to the upper balcony. Leaning against the railing we could see it all and take it in for one last moment before needing to head home for the night. As we entered the car and prepared to go to the after party a song begins to play and it just so happens to be my favorite song in the whole world. He not only played my favorite song, but he also played a whole playlist of songs that I love. On the way to our after party, we dropped off Jake’s sister and her date. Then we headed to a good friend of mine’s house. We stayed there until about 3:30 in the morning talking, laughing and munching on some goodies. It was a wonderful way to begin ending the night. I knew that I needed to wake up for work in the morning, so we finally decided to head for my place. When we arrived home Liberty, our dog, barked loud enough to wake up my dad, but thankfully only my dad woke up. Then Jake opened a couple gifts I had got him for his trip to Washington D.C., which he was leaving for at 6:00 that morning. Yikes! To end the night we finished with one last little dance and a curtsy and a bow goodnight. I watched out the window dreaming of the wonderful night and more importantly making sure that Jake made it to his car safely. He only slept one hour before leaving on his grand adventure. Thankfully I got three hours of sleep before work. My boss let me go home a bit early because I was purely exhausted from the eventful night, which I was truly grateful for. I don’t know how to say how thankful I was to be able to have such a grand night. I cannot thank the Lord enough for this wonderful night and for giving me the chance to be able to go with such an admirable young chap. J

When grace descends on you, unannounced and unexpected, When your prayers are answered, and you are given more than you asked, When your love is reciprocated, and your calls are returned, When you are content with life, and your heart knows true peace, When the existence resonates, in silence with your being, you are blessed to live, in those magical moments. Let this moment pass in quiet gratitude, Let this moment remain forever, For, some words are better left unsaid, The soul remembers them forever!

RELAY FOR LIFE:

Dear Friends and Family:

The American Cancer Society remains committed to making life better for individuals whose lives are affected by cancer. Through Relay for Life, they have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of over 4 million people in our community and communities like ours who are living with cancer.

The American Cancer Society’s work is only possible with the assistance of donations from friends and families. Without donations from supporters such as yourself, the people who benefited from American Cancer Society’s services last year would have been left to face their challenges with cancer all alone. It is their belief that every person dealing with this cancer deserves the support that we are ready and willing to give.

My purpose in doing this is in remembrance of my great grandmother who died from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and my grandpa who died in 2008 from Pancreatic cancer. 1 in 3 people are diagnosed with cancer. I’m looking to grow my team, if you are interested in walking with me on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. My teams name is 4 M.O.R.E. If you aren’t able to walk with me, but still would like to contribute to this cause you can also look up my team 4 M.O.R.E. and click on the donate button.

With Sincere Appreciation,
Taylor R. Good
