Wednesday June 20, 2012
Today I went down to breakfast. I was the only one still in their pajamas. Mom took us on an African Safari. We had to drive through a large gate to enter the safari. Before you entered into the Safari gate you had to sign a waiver stating that you would be responsible to pay for any damage done to your vehicle by the animals. As you entered there were about twenty signs warning you to lock all doors and windows to your vehicle. We were able to see animals of every nationality up closer than ever before. There were baboons climbing on the car in front of us. In the middle of the Safari an ostrich came right up next to my mom’s window, where by then she proceeded to scream and move away from the door. The ostrich had crossed her line of personal space and freaked her out. Her reaction was priceless. I now have about a hundred close up pictures of wildlife. Oh great “nature.”JWe ate lunch there, watched elephants swim, enjoyed a bird show, took a train ride, and attempted to stay hydrated. Now we are taking the one-hour drive back to the hotel. Now that we are back at the hotel we will head downstairs for dinner then go for a swim. While we were swimming, Chandler made friends with a little boy from Egypt. The little boy had a younger brother, who followed me around, and we had great conversations about how the current in the pool circulates the water. Later in the night all the boys went out to play basketball. The little boys from Egypt had never seen a basketball little lone known how to play the sport. So it was more of a learning experience than a game, but fun all the same. I and my sister had our nightly talking time and after a bowl of ice-cream, I think I will be heading to bed.

  • I kept wondering why all the interstate signs had the letters QEW on them. I realized that the interstate is called Queen Elizabeth Way.

Today I slept in until the cleaning lady came in. Slowly but surely I got ready for the day. Mom looked up a google amount of things to do in Toronto, Canada. I ate a sandwich for lunch then headed down to the pool with my siblings. Right now I’m lying out in the sun. The only place to do this is on the poolside deck where the cars zoom by and the airplanes fly overhead. How relaxing. ;) Now I’m chillin’ out in the hotel room and hope to go work out for a while. I worked out for 20 minutes on the elliptical. Then I climbed up six flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator, but as I got to the top of the sixth floor the door would not open. So back down the stairs over to the elevator and back to the room. Tonight I ate green bell peppers stuffed with a meatloaf and two different kinds of salad. It was delicious. When dad arrived home we went down to a park where we swung and took a brisk walk on a nature trail. When we got back I did a little stretching to help out my muscles. Everyone else went swimming again while I stayed back in the room and watched some TV. Now it is 12:23 p.m. and I just finished showering so I shall say goodnight. Aye!

Today we woke up at 3:00 and we left for the airport at 4:30. I got a sweet tea for the ride to the airport. Once we got to the airport we dropped off the rental car and then rode the escalators up. Autumn, who hates escalators, about had a heart attack.  Daddy had checked us in online so we were able to head straight to security check-in. Thankfully we all made it through security with no problems. Now we are waiting at the airport for our plane to be ready for boarding. It is 5:45 A.M. and now daddy wants me to fill out paperwork. Oh Great! The paperwork was easy to fill out. I got a mango smoothie for my “hard” work. Yum! Today I saw my first real life shoe-shiner. If it wasn’t for Autumn I wouldn’t have seen the shoe shiner. We have ½ an hour before we can board the plane. L We have boarded the plane!!! Autumn got the window seat while I sat in the middle next to some guy who really liked to read books. The flight attendant was slightly humorous as she sang the airplane safety instructions. My ears feel funny. At first I felt light headed, such as when I was given laughing gas, but I’m better now. When the flight attendant came around I just ordered water since I had no idea what else I was allowed to get. Before landing I looked out the window and pointed to some objects below saying to Autumn “look at all those cars!” only to find out they were houses. Go figure! Our first flight to midway- Chicago was sooooo short. Autumn liked landing the best because she felt like she was on a roller coaster. Now we are waiting for our connecting flight. It is funny to think we left at 7:30 and arrived at 7:20. This is because of the time difference. Our second flight leaves around 9:30, headed for Buffalo/ Niagra, New York. We boarded the plane and I got to eat pretzels. Yum! They did that because there was a peanut allergy on board the plane. We met up with mom at Denny’s. After traveling this much, all the food on the menu looked delightful and seemed to taste exceptionally delicious. At 2:57 we officially made it into Canada and past customs. Yea! What a relief. We crossed over a three mile long bridge over an inlet of the great lake Ontario. I was the last one packed for Canada, but the first one unpacked. I guess I don’t really like to live out of suitcases.J I really like the hotel. It is a Residence Inn so they are accommodating to people who need a place to stay for longer than a nice little vacation. I took a nice warm shower and made some hot tea. Right now I am curled up with my fur blanket and cup of tea, ready for bed. As I look outside my window I see planes coming and going because we are so close to the airport. I think I will like it here.

At the end of each entry I will include any differences between Canada and the U.S.

  • Their construction barrels are black and orange instead of white and orange
  •           Their gallons of milk are sold in plastic bags instead of plastic containers
  • All the signs have English first and then French where as we have English and then Spanish
